LIWeddings has grown into a trusted hub for Long Island couples, blending a vendor marketplace with active forums and bridal-show promotion. As traffic, categories, and user-generated content expanded, the team needed to modernize the experience without losing the site’s community feel.
Key goals: make it easier for couples to discover vetted local vendors, read authentic reviews, and compare options quickly; help vendors convert interest into qualified leads with richer profiles, inquiries, and packages; and streamline editorial surfaces like real weddings, engagements, and tips.
Operationally, forum health and moderation tools had to scale with volume, and event pages for expos/showcases needed clearer registration and promotion mechanics. Leadership wanted end-to-end visibility across funnels—search → vendor profile → inquiry → booking—and stronger SEO for high-intent, Long-Island-specific searches. Finally, after decades online, the platform required faster page loads, a mobile-first design, and a privacy-respecting analytics setup to support ongoing growth in categories like venues, DJs, florists, and transportation—plus integrations to support “Best Of” programs and sponsorships.
We modernized the platform as a clean, composable Laravel monolith. Blade + Livewire delivered fast, interactive pages without heavy client frameworks, while a shared design system made comparison easy and showcased reviews and “Best Of” badges. Search and discovery run through Laravel Scout with MeiliSearch/OpenSearch, tuned with local ranking signals (category, proximity, review quality, recency) and filterable facets. Vendor profiles gained richer media, FAQs, packages, availability prompts, and lead forms with optional qualifying questions.
Role-based access uses Policies/Gates; Sanctum/Passport secures APIs for partner integrations. Queues on Redis + Horizon handle notifications, lead routing, and image processing; caching (response + fragment) and CDN (CloudFront) keep pages snappy. Forums received modern moderation queues, spam controls, and “mark as solved” nudges to preserve community tone. Bridal-show pages now include schedules, featured vendors, registration, and post-event follow-ups.
Privacy-safe server events map the full funnel from search to inquiry to booked. CI/CD (GitHub/GitLab) with Envoy/Deployer enables zero-downtime, canary-style releases during peak planning seasons. Result: a faster, calmer journey for couples and a higher-signal, measurable pipeline for vendors—delivered entirely on Laravel.
Post-launch, couples found what they needed faster and with less noise: relevant vendors surfaced sooner, review credibility was easier to judge, and comparison paths were clearer—leading to more confident inquiries. Vendors reported steadier lead flow with better context (budget, guest count, timing), reducing back-and-forth and improving close rates.
The community felt healthier: modern moderation cut spam and kept discussions constructive while preserving LIWeddings’ long-standing peer-help culture. Bridal-show pages saw improved registration completion and stronger follow-through to vendor outreach. On the growth side, structured data, faster pages, and Long-Island-specific information architecture supported organic visibility for niche searches (e.g., waterfront venues, limo services, photo booths). Internally, unified dashboards highlighted where the funnel slowed—by category or season—so the team could fix issues quickly and double-down on what worked. The platform’s modular Laravel architecture now supports adding new categories, promotions, or sponsorship placements without heavy rework, and observability keeps releases safe during peak months.
Overall, LIWeddings strengthened what made it trusted for decades—community, reviews, and local expertise—while giving both couples and vendors a smoother, more measurable path to “booked.”
